Enjoy the Sun with our 35 ¢/kWh Solar Export Rate

Dreaming of summer yet? Well, in preparation, we’ve bumped up our solar export rate to 35 ¢/kWh!

The basic theory with high/low solar (microgeneration) rates like this is you want a high (“expensive”) rate during the summer when you export more electricity in a month than you consume, and a low rate during the winter when your panels don’t produce near as much. Our solar program is smart enough to take care of switching between your high and low rates automatically!

The other change I’ve been able to secure is that your low rate can now be a floating rate (rather than only a fixed rate); historically, floating rates have provided the best value and thus are what I typically recommend.

If you’re already a Strathcona Power solar customer, you’ll be automatically be moved up to this for your high rate.

If you’re ready to switch, when you go through the enrollment, pick one of our “regular” rates — this will be your “low rate” — and then click the “Got Solar?” checkbox.

If you have any questions or need some help reach out, email me at (william@strathconapower.ca).

P.S.: the rate (even though it’s called the “Solar Rate”) is good for any type of microgeneration in Alberta. Micro-Combined Heat and Power (mCHP) anyone?
