As an ongoing fundraiser, we have partnered with a variety of organizations, and we are happy to partner with more! Strathcona Power donates a portion of each enrolled site’s monthly bill to our fundraising partners.

Who can sign up?

Strathcona Power provides power and gas to almost every area of Alberta. Any sign-ups in Alberta that identify your fundraising organization in the promo code and/or comments will be added to the Fundraiser. Encourage your family and grandparents to sign up!

Why does Strathcona Power fundraise?

Edmontonians William and Marcy Minchin have been operating a utility retailer since 2012. They have three children, and have seen the great need for easy, successful fundraisers for all things attached to children. They believe in community building, and have heard from so many churches that numbers are down, and the financial future of many small, neighborhood churches and organizations is uncertain. They began this fundraising program as a way to give back to the community and support children’s education at school, in extracurricular activities, and in religious spaces.

This fundraiser maximizes fundraising potential by creating ongoing income for the fundraising organization. Each home or business that signs up with Strathcona Power will generate income for the fundraising organization forever (i.e. until they cancel their service with Strathcona Power). See below for details on how much money an organization can expect to make through the fundraiser.

I’d like to fundraise with you. How do I sign up?

If you would like to fundraise with Strathcona Power, we’ll get you set up with a promo code and advertising materials. Please contact Marcy at marcy@strathconapower.ca.

How much money will the fundraising organization receive from this fundraiser?

If you have 10 families sign up, you’ll make $1,200+ per year.1

If you have 25 families sign up, you’ll make $3,000+ per year.1

These funds can be used by your organization for whatever your needs are and so are great in situations when you need “matching funds” for another grant program.

Small businesses and houses with solar panels often will generate more than a “regular” home — sign them up!

Sign up your church building or clubhouse or community league or business utilities, and jumpstart your fundraiser.

How it works:

The fundraising organization will receive approximately $5/month2 per utility signup of a single family home. For example, if a family signs up for electricity and gas with Strathcona Power, the organization will receive double that — ~$10/month — for as long as they remain signed up with Strathcona Power. That’s a great deal!

Homes with solar panels generate much more during the summer, so they are great additions to the fundraiser!

Strathcona Power will send fundraiser cheques once a year to each organization, along with a report of how many sites they have enrolled.

Past success:

In 2025, a fundraising organization had 10 homes signed up for both electricity and gas, and over a period of 9 months they received a fundraising income of $1,100! Help us write even bigger cheques!

How much of Strathcona Power’s profits are they sharing with the organization through this fundraiser?

Strathcona Power is donating 50% of their profits to the fundraising organization. Our company’s profit margin is ~1 ¢/kWh for electricity (and a similiar amount for natural gas), and we will be donating 50% of that.

How can I see the rates, and how do I know if subscribing will save me money?

You can find all our rates here: Electricity & Natural Gas. The fundraising is valid with all of our rates.

If you need help figuring out if one of our rates can save you money, don’t hesitate to email us! We’ll provide you with a comparison quote and a personalized rate recommendation.

What are the best rates to sign up for?

Because rates change monthly, please contact us for an updated recommendation. However, in general we currently recommend floating rates. They have consistently been lower than fixed rates since the beginning of 2025. We offer both floating and fixed rates for power and natural gas with terms up to 5 years.

Does Strathcona Power offer a solar rate?

YES! We offer exceptional summer and winter rates in order to maximize your solar generation income during the summer. Our summertime solar club rate is 35 ¢/kWh.

How do I sign up for the solar-club rate?

When you sign up for electricity, choose the rate you would like to be on in the winter; Floating is our recommendation. Then click the “Got Solar” checkbox. We even manage switching between your winter and summer rates for you!

What are the steps for changing utility providers?

Switching is simple.

The signup form asks for your address and some information about you, and for payment information. We’ll reach out in the rare case we need anything more. Two days later, you’re flowing with us! Your first bill will come about six weeks after you complete the signup process.

Note: It is not possible to be signed up with more than one retailer at a time, so signing up will automatically end your previous contract — you won’t be double billed for the same time period.

What is the benefit to me to sign up with Strathcona Power?

  • For no additional cost to you, you will support your fundraising organization by participating in this ongoing fundraiser.
  • You’ll be supporting local! Strathcona Power is Alberta-owned and operated. All our employees are Albertans.
  • Phone/email support by Albertans: You can contact us at any time with questions about your bill or how the utility systems work in Alberta, and there will be an Albertan on the other end. We are happy to discuss with you! Feel free to email Marcy .
  • Strathcona Power maintains competitive pricing, ensuring that you won’t be gouged for your utilities.
  • No signup fees
  • Paperless billing

How much does it cost me to switch utility providers?

It does not cost anything to start using Strathcona Power as your utility provider from our side. Check your current terms and conditions to see if you have a cancellation fee (but cancellation fees are very rare these days).

What payment methods does Strathcona Power accept?

Direct debit (aka “pre-authorized debit”) is preferred, but we can also accept credit card and online/telephone bank bill payments.

How will I receive my bill?

All bills are sent electronically via email.

What if I have more questions?

Feel free to email us! We are happy to answer questions and/or provide a comparative quote so that you know if switching providers will save you money.

  1. There are a number of assumptions built into this number, including average household consumption and that each family signs up for both electricity and natural gas. As such, these numbers are intended to be representative, but are not guarantees. If your fundraiser isn’t getting this traction though, please reach out and we’d be happy to help you figure out why.

  2. The contribution amount is tied to usage fluctuations in the energy market. In the winter, the allocation from a single family home will be a bit more than $5/month, in the summer it will be a bit less. The average is ~$5/month.
