So this morning brought two things: our first layering of snow and an email from our risk them that we’ve bumped up our solar export rate to 40 ¢/kWh!
I know, I know, the two are rather opposites of each other. But sign up now to be ready for next spring!
The basic theory with high/low solar (microgeneration) rates like this is you want a high (“expensive”) rate during the summer when you export more electricity in a month than you consume, and a low rate during the winter when your panels don’t produce near as much. Our solar program is smart enough to take care of switching between your high and low rates automatically.
If you’re already a Strathcona Power solar customer, you’ll be automatically be moved up to this for your high rate.
If you’re ready to switch, when you go through the enrollment, pick one of our “regular” rates — this will be your “low rate” — and then click the “Got Solar?” checkbox.
If you have any questions or need some help reach out, email me at william@strathconapower.ca .
P.S.: the rate (even though it’s called the “Solar Rate”) is good for any type of microgeneration in Alberta. Micro-Combined Heat and Power (mCHP) anyone?
